FD259 – 30 Day Video Challenge & a Little Juicing

30 Day Challengea
Day 2, I asked for help with Juicing on my video.

I’m always up for a challenge.  This is one challenge that you can’t loss.  I always say success is relative and so I decided to join….

The 30 Day Video Challenge on Facebook

Yeap, you probably guessed it.  I’m suppose to post one video per day for the whole month of May.  Since I am trying to kick-start my YouTube career, I thought I would give it a go.  :)  Now you can not only read the blog, but you can see me everyday (hopefully).  I will still be covering “Life as I Live It”, but in a new format.

Let me know what you all think.  At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do it, so I am a couple of days behind.  That’s OK.  I see myself learning a lot from this experience and that is what I’m ultimately going for. My goal has always been, to be better today than I was yesterday.  I’m right on track with that.

This post will be short and sweet and totally out of my comfort zone.  I will be posting a page dedicated to my new videos within the next few days, but for now you can view and give me some cool feedback at my YouTube Channel http://youtube.com/lizforaday

This is my latest video where I’m asking for help with juicing.  There will be more to come on this subject.

Check it out…..

I sure would appreciate any help I can get with the juicing.  This had to be the fastest post for me, ever. :)  It was also a quick video, because I was getting ready to go to the Farmers Market.  I used my iPhone to make the video, so it is pretty crappy.  I still look good though. :)  I will continue the juicing conversation tomorrow.

30 Day Challengec

FD 256 – Optimize Blog Images, Why?…Make a Statement

Optimize Blog ImagesI love to share what I’ve learned with others.  Blogging is a SERIOUS hobby for me and I emphasize hobby for obvious reasons.  Blogging is such a self satisfying and fun past time.  Everybody needs some fun in their lives.  I figure since I’m blogging then I may as well do it right.  You really should optimize blog images…why…well I got a story.  Want to here it…Here it go!

Optimize Blog Images
This pic says I’m running a Disney Race.

I had a friend that ask me how I come up my post.  Sometimes I just start writing and my fingers do the rest.  Of course my mind is working in the background.  Once I finish writing, I add photos and that’s when the magic happens.

Optimize Blog Images
This picture shows interesting culture in Philippines.

Most of the time the pictures help me to remember and tell a specific story.  Lots of people only want to look at the pictures.  Frankly when I go to a new blog, I love to see pics.  In my opinion they add personality to each page.

Why, Why, Why should you use images? ……….

Well I think I got a couple of reasons to help you make that decision……

  • Optimize blog images to tell a story and  make a statement.

    Optimize Blog Images
On river watching elephants cross the Zambezi river. Can you see them in the background.
  • Those images serve double duty.  They can help others to find your pages by way of SEO optimization. (Search Engine Optimization) Those hidden gems give search engines another way to find your good works.
  • It doesn’t hurt to use Alt tags which is where you can insert keywords.  It’s like putting a message in a bottle on the sea.
  • Don’t underestimate the power of links.  You can insert links to different pages behind those wonderful blog images.  There is power in linkage.

Take a breath…..Ahhhhhh…….look at picture………read more……

Superman Sighting
This guy was on one of the orchids that sat outside on my veranda in Bali. Keep in mind, I was on the third floor. How did he get way up there? What a stunning picture and I took it myself.
  • Inserting an image or two breaks up text.  Lets face it, people like to look at pictures more than they like to read. Well, I do anyway.  :)
  • Optimize blog images to elevate your post.  I have been to blogs with no images, but the ones I really love are the ones that sport a photo or two. It’s like looking in a window.
  • Since you are letting people look in your window, you may as well make it personal.  I love seeking pictures of the actual bloggers in action.  That’s a bit stalkerish, but it works.

Your Blog is your House….People will be looking…So Decorate….

Optimize Bog Images
This is how a family rolls in Bali
  • Personally, I make every attempt to use my own photos.  Don’t forget when you go on the hunt for images that they technically belong to someone else.  Copyright infringement is a no, no.  You could end up paying some pretty heavy fines if you get caught. Give credit if you need to, but don’t count on that being enough.
  • Optimize blog images can be use as a branding tool.  We blog for ourselves, but it is nice when people come to visit. Why not brand your photos with a watermark or copyright. @LizForADay

The bottom line ……………. Don’t be lazy. Optimize Blog Images and at the same time add some character to the extension of your personality that is your blog.

Optimize Blog Images
Go ahead take that picture!

After all, it is your blog..so go ahead and post whatever floats your boat.  I know I will.  :)

Your Picture Taking, Super Model Lizzy :)

FD255 – How to Make Your First Vlog…Just Do It!

How to make your first Vlog
Freshly posted to Youtube

OK, this is going to be super short because I just posted my 1st blog on YouTube.  YEAH! (High Five Me!)  I have been checking out other bloggers and Vlogers and it really inspired me to try it.  And guess what?  I loved it.  Of course that is another thing to suck up my time with, but who cares.  You only live once dagnabit. How to make your first Vlog is as simple as jumping in with both feet.

Make Your First Vlog  The question remains how to make your first blog? Of course I’m no expert, but I can tell you it wasn’t that easy and it literally took me hours to complete it.  Thats because I wanted to add some nice touches to jazz it up a bit.  I also atribute that to this being my first time and me not having a clue how to use IMovie on my MacBook.  Yikes!  I was not able to fine much on the the actual process to learn.

I suppose you can use your webcam or your Iphone.  I actually have a video camera which I barley use and decided that was just what I needed to use.  The program I used on my computer was IMovie (If you have a PC you can use Windows Movie Maker).  I have not used the Windows version, so I could not help with that.  The rest was testing and hit or miss. You could just recored it and upload it to your Youtube account.  Then it would it’s a done deal.

Soooooooo….like everything else in my life…I saw a need within me…..I taught myself…..I did it…….I posted….I conquered……I did it!!!!!!! :)

If anyone is interested on how I actually did it, let me know and I will be happy to assist.  I will try to remember what the heck I did.  :) For now enjoy my 1st Vlog.  Oh please forgive all the flaws you my see and cut me some slack.  Also the intro is a bit long, but I think you will enjoy anyway.

One more thing….By all means…Leave a comment and let me know what you think. :) I promise to love you forever.

Your Lurvly Lotus Lizzy :)

Peace Out

FD248 – Daily Prompt | Places… Post Excerpts & Life Excerpts…Anywhere but Here!

Post Excerpts
I would love to be eating fresh fruit from Thailand.

I have been on the hunt to make a change to the landing/home page.  I wanted it to have post excerpts of each post and not show the whole post.  I also wanted it to show an image as well.  I love posting pictures on LizForADay.  I also love going to blogs that post lots of personal pictures.  It simply adds fantastic personality.

I ran across the code that promised to give me what I desired in a home page.  Yeah Post Excerpts! :) I know it does not take much to make me happy.  Unfortunately I didn’t write down the site that I got the code from.  I always like to give credit, where credit is due.  I’m afraid I have failed this time….BUT I did want to pass that code on if anyone wants to do the same.

All you need to do is to put the post excerpts code in the functions.php of your theme and voila you’re done.  The code will be at the very end of the post if you want it.

Post Excerpts
I would love to be with my kids on a beach somewhere.

OK I guess you’re asking yourself, what the heck do your pictures have to do with updating your home page.  EXCERPTS silly!  :)  I am having flash back of places I would love to be instead of here.  So I decided to post some excerpts from some fantastic places that I have been.

Post Excerpts
Yoga’s Mom in Bali. I love meeting great people.

By the way I gave the lady in the picture the sarong and she commence to wearing it everyday.  She was so sweet.  Sometimes going places is all about the people you meet.

Post Excerpts
My daughter & I driving a boat.

Sometimes it is about the things you get to do.  I was very happy.  It was 9 am, I was in Mexico, on my families very first vacation and I already had about 3 Mexican beers.  Can you say that is definitely a place that I would love to be?

Post Excerpts
Me in Venice at San Paulo Square. I would love to be riding on a gondola right now.

I’ve been blessed enough to have gone to some fantastic places and taken some incredible pictures.  When I look at the pictures I feel like I am back in those places.  I love sharing those moments.  You would kill me if I posted every picture I took.

Post Excerpts
Yeap that is me and a Shark. I think the shark was drugged.

You know I would love to be somewhere else doing crazy things.  And nope I’m not that crazy…ok maybe a little.  I wish I as an adrenaline junkie, but I’m not really.  I do however love to sightsee.  That is my favorite thing to do when I go somewhere.

Post Excerpts
I would love to be speculating over the ruins.

Looking back at the past always makes me contemplate about my modern life.  I just feel so  blessed when I go to places like that.  Oh I was in Athens in the above picture.  I was also loving day dreaming about what it must of been like during the days when this old city was thriving.

Post Excerpts
I would love to be at Victoria falls checking out the sites.

There is something majestic about natural wonders.  I was loving life on my grand vacation to Victoria Falls in Africa.  Not many Americans get to see this site.  I feel so houdy toudy sometimes.  :)

Post Excerpts
I would love to be on the beach during the sunset.

Yeap that’s me on the beach at Boracay Island in the Philippines.  Who wouldn’t want to see a site like that.  I didn’t know God made the sky so many different beautiful colors.  I did not Photoshop the photo, I promise. :)

Post Excerpts
I would love to be viewing the amazing country side of Cape Town from the top of Table Top Mountain in South Africa.

Believe it or not the pictures go on and on, but I will spare you from my crazy world of picture taking.

The point of this post……and there is always a point…..is , well, there is no point.  :)  I just wanted to share a way for you to incorporate excerpts in your blog and give you a view of some memorable excerpts from my life.  I hope you enjoyed.

I’m sure you will agree that the life excerpts are much more interesting than the post excerpts.

Your Blessed & Sharing Lizzy :)

FD237 – Weekly Photo Challenge: Unique Photo, Situations From the Ordinary

Unique Photo
Having Fun with Our New Veggie

I subscribe to the The Daily Post blog.  There are always great learning tools and challenges to keep your mind sharp when it comes to blogging.  If you are a blogger you should check it out. One of my goals for this year was to accept and take on some of these challenges.

This weeks photo challenge, which is every Friday was to talk about the uniqueness of a photo/image.  That gave me a great opportunity to go back through my photos and reminisce.  I take some pretty good pictures if I do say so myself.

I love the featured photo, because it embodies what my work life is here in Afghanistan is like on most days.  Fun!  :)  We have a lot of fun.

Here is what I consider to be unique about the photos in this post.  First there are three nationalities represented in the photo.  US, Kenyan & Afghan.  We all have different cultural norms and values, yet we all work well together and as a team.  Afghans get a bad wrap, but some of them are really good people.

Unique Photo
Enjoying My Cucumber

I’m not saying we don’t clash sometimes, but we all have great work ethics.  That makes the hectic work environment not so bad.  I’m always willing to taste new foods here also.  You can’t go wrong when it comes to a veggie for me.

Unique Photo
Afghanistan Cucumber

I know you were wondering what the heck that thing was.  The guy in the above picture brought in an Afghanistan Cucumber.  It taste just like any other cucumber.  It just looks different.  I love trying different foods, but you have to be careful what you try here.  I don’t want to upset my delicate lotus blossom tummy.  :)

If you are a blogger you should check out The Daily Post because this post was inspired by this weeks photo challenge.

FD 231- Social Skills + Social Media = Social Lotus

I’m really working on my social skills, Dagnabit!  What about you? How does one become a Social Lotus on a budgeted, limited schedule.  For me, I do it the disorganized way.  I squish in as much as I can, any kind of way I can, and do whatever I can in a small amount of time.  So don’t be like me.  Be better than me.  Please.  :)

Today on the Liz blogging schedule is blog info. Yes I have a schedule.  Yes I have a schedule.  I have to repeat that over & over.  This week I kind of threw the schedule out the window.  Since I will be traveling it may still not be back on track for a minute, but oh well.  No one cares but me. :)

[otw_is sidebar=otw-sidebar-10]

One thing I wanted to do is to ramp up my social skills & standings.  It is not that I really really care about the millions of people who follow me or like me or subscribe to LizForADay.  It is the challenge of increasing the stats.  Stats tell you if you’re being a better blogger today than you were yesterday.

Socail skills Even if the stats were so small a mouse would not give it the time of day, I would most like still blog.  Why?…….

Ultimately I’m doing it for myself.  It’s a way to release the pinned up creative energy that I have.  It’s also a way for me to talk as much as I want.  I’m not worrying about someone telling me to shut up.  :) If they tell me in a comment, I can just edit it.  :)

I was telling my friend, Gennia Holder (social media guru) that I wanted to find a way to connect with my inner social skills & drive traffic to my blog.  ( I was chatting with her on Facebook) Not so much to be seen, but because I crave interaction through the form of comments.  I luv, luv, luv comments.  I answer them all.  :)  They make me happy.

[otw_is sidebar=otw-sidebar-16]

Note: Don’t forget to leave your comment at the end of each and every post.  All compliments and praises are welcome.  After all this blog is all about The POSITIVE aspects of “Life as I Live It.”  Even when I whine and complain I’m smiling on the inside.  :)

Social Skills

This is Gennia Holder & this some extremely useful info she redirected me to me.

This is super great info and I wanted to share it.  No plug in required.  :(  You all know by now that I have a sorted history with plug-ins. They done me wrong, but I still love them.  As a matter of fact I just installed another so you, my readers can pin any image on my site to your Pinterest account.  I wish more people had that feature.  It is awesome.

I could go on and on and on, but I won’t.  I feel so popular lately.  Ha, Ha! :) I will let you all know how this is working out for me in a later post.

FD229 – WordPress Plugin, Redirects…Near Lizaster!

Let me tell you about my WordPress Plugin almost Lizaster.  OK, first let me apologize if you came to the blog and it was a hot mess yesterday.  Second I apologize if you tried to comment and your comments disappeared.  I assure you, I looked all over the house and they are gone if you commented during that time.  This is my story…..

WordPress Plugin
OMG, I broke it!

I had installed this plugin on the blog to assist with redirects.  UHHH…I guess I should first explain what the heck a WordPress plugin is and what redirects are.

A software plug-in is an add-on for a program that adds functionality to it. It basically is an easy way to change codes that run in the background to make your site perform a specific function.  Example I have a Facebook Facepile WordPress plugin that tells my site to display faces.

URL Redirects happen when you attempt to open a URL that has been redirected, a page with a different URL is opened. It is also called URL forwarding.  Example-if you type http://www.FantabulousDay.com in your browser it will take you to http://LizForADay.com

Now you can follow along with my story of the almost demise of the LizForADay empire.  I basically told LizForADay to redirect to Lizforaday.wordpress.com.  The problem with that is it created a continual loop.  I was not able to get into the proper admin area to fix the problem.

WordPress Plugin
Yeap that’s a dog chasing it’s tail.

Through the help of the world wide web search engines, I was able to find a band-aid to put a temporary fix on the problem so I could get in to the admin section of my self host website. Now I have to figure how to take the band-aid off without ripping the skin off. :(

Of course that is not the end of the story.  The sites format was a hot mess.  There was no formatting at all.  It was somewhat readable. I wanted to cry.  :( Why had I tortured myself this way.  I had no idea how to fix it.  Well my site is hosted by Blue Host, who has a marvelous & responsive customer service department.

I entered a help ticket and they immediately told me what the cause of the problems might be.  With that information, I was able to fix it.   The main issue was a WordPress  plugin.  I unplugged everything and then plugged in everything again. I won’t bore you with the details.  If you are having the same issue leave a comment and I will come to the rescue with a page from “Life as I Live” and the exact details of what I did.

Needless to say my fix or customer service’s fix worked like a charm.  That little innocent keystroke, not only messed up the redirection, it messed up my admin login, it messed up the ability for my readers to make comments, it gave me a mini heart attack and almost took LizForADay DOWN forever! …..Well I may be exaggerating a bit.  I would have gotten it going again, because I am good like that.  :)

I would like to say that won’t happen again & that I will stay away from things that I don’t have a clue about, but that would be an outrageous lie.  Part of the fun of blogging on a self hosted site is taking risk and trying new things and even breaking things sometimes.  After all, I am not paying rent on this place.  I can do what I want and let my creativeness flow.  :)

OK, I can Zen again. Backups give me peace of mind.
OK, I can Zen again. Backups give me peace of mind.

I will say, my saving grace was that I have monthly, weekly, & daily backups.  I knew my site content was safe.  Backups will give you peace of mine also, that is for sure.  Whweee…..WordPress Plugin Lizaster diverted.

FD 218 – 14 Big Blog Improvements for Your Benefit

Blog Improvements
Working on Making Liz’s Fantabulous Day Better!

I’m always look for better blog improvements because blogging is one of my favorite things to do these days.  I’m always trying to make it look better, read better & work better.  I’m totally thrilled that I decided to go with a self hosted blog.  I have the freedom to basically do whatever I please.  Blogging has become an adventure for me.

I’m one of those people that pick up  pennies and put them in my pocket.  In this case pennies being different blogging features.  If you have something cool on your site, I will probably steal the idea.  I didn’t say content.  I don’t need to steal content.  I always have something positive and creative to say.  I don’t roll that way. I’m no thief.  And besides, nobody can say it the way I do.  :)

rsz_liz_main_character Thursday is like Friday night for me.  It’s the beginning of my one day weekend.  I try to stay up as late as my beautiful eyeballs can stand.  I don’t just stay up, I make every attempt to be productive.  What better way then to implement some blog improvements.  This thursday night I stayed up to SEO some old post and updating a few of my travel pages.  I have a lot of blank pages that need some attention and not a lot of time to do them up the way I really want.

One other thing that I wanted to do was to update my version of WordPress.  I have been letting that update  set in my update box because I had read somewhere that updates will erase some of the tweaks I had made.  I didn’t want that to happen.  I have been working darn hard to get LizForADay to shine.  Work in progress people…work in progress. :) I always notice when bloggers make subtle changes.

rsz_liz_main_character I kept running across the same thing.  You need to have a Childs Theme.  Creating the child theme would require me to mess around on the backend of the site where all the confusing code is.  Well it’s not so confusing to me.  I am smart and I have worked with it a bit in the past.  Still it can be a bit intimidating.  I even thought of hiring someone to do this for me.

I have never been one to just throw money at others to do things for me.  So I did some research and jumped right in.  I knew it would be ok if I messed it up because I have my site backed up.  I was able to make the child theme with no problem, with minimal changes & I did the update with no problems whatsoever. That was only one of the changes that I’ve made.  rsz_liz_main_character

I am sure you have notice the evolution of the site over time if you have been following LizForADay. I am really excited about how things are looking these days.  But on to what you came for….

Here are some blog improvements that I have made…….

Blog Improvements
That’s Me!

1. I got a logo.  My blog is not business based, but it is branded.  My logo stands out and speaks for itself.  I even created a favicon also.  That little lady is so adorable.  :)

2. Change is good & fun.  I can change my header to reflect the seasons, holiays or whatever the heck I want.

[otw_is sidebar=otw-sidebar-10]

3. I posted social media icons to make it even easier to follow the blog.

Blog Improvemetns
I did it myself.

4. I created a media kit for future advertising opportunities.  I have actually turned down some because they basically wanted to turn my blog into theirs.  Nope, that is not what I want for my blog.

5. I posted dynamic widgets such as trackers, milestones, & reader comments.  Those are always fun to follow along with.

6. I make ever attempt to engage my readers with questions at the end of every post & page.

[otw_is sidebar=otw-sidebar-9]

7. I posted a grabit button to swap with other bloggers. You are welcome to grabit if you like.  :)

8. I continually update content to maintain the positive energy of the blog.

9. I make things easy for my readers.  This is done by making commenting easier & allowing picture viewing using sliders.

10. I organized the menu to make it simpler to find what you are looking for.

11. I use related post to also make surfing the site a synch.

12. I update my about page often. About pages are a must have.

14. I have a schedule.  Monday – Self Help Day, Tuesday – Travel, Wednesday – Wednesday Rewind, Thursday – Fitness, Friday – Up in the Air, Saturday – Blogging, Sunday – Soap Box Sunday. Now you know a method to my madness.  ;-)

Of course there is even more improvements running in the background.  You are welcome to use any of the improvements I made for your blog.  This is what works for me, you can try it if you like, it just might work for you.

Have a Great Weekend Everybody!

What changes have you made that you are most proud of?

Let me know if you have any questions about how to incorporate any of the above for your blog?  I love to share. :)

What do you thing of the design of LizForADay?

FD212 – Habitual Blog Commenter..Yes I am…What about you?

blog commenter

Habitual blog commenter you say?  Yes I say.  I’m not afraid to admit that I love, love, love leaving my two cents everywhere.  I also love, love, love reading blogs.  That is my way of legally taking a peek into someone’s life.  Not to mention that I learn so much.  Bloggers are definitely special people.  They literally wear their hearts on their sleeves for everyone to see.  They add value to other peoples lives even if they don’t mean too.

Blog commenter
Commenting is like writing a letter to the author.

Whenever I’m reading, I always think to myself, “Should I leave a comment?”  The answer is always “HE..double hockey sticks, YES!, the writer needs me.  How will he/she know I was here if I don’t.”  Really, that is the way I think. You may quitely read a post and go on to the next.  I think you are missing out on some great interactions if you do.  Now, I’m not trying to solicit more comments with this post…I’m just saying. :)

Blog Commenter
I love taking pictures of me, but it’s not all about me. Not all the time. :)

On the other hand it’s always great to ask for what you want.  The worse thing that can happen is for someone to say no or not give you what you ask for.  So please leave a comment.  I love meeting people and hearing about your life.  Some great conversations happen on blog comments.  I really enjoy them.  So…….

Why be a blog commenter?

Blog Commenter
Happy Blogger & Blog Commenter!

Comments make bloggers happy. It makes me smile just to get a comment or a response to a comment that I’ve left for someone else.

Comments validate a bloggers reason for being. Of course we blog for our own self satisfaction, but we don’t want to be invisible.  Being seen makes us feel somewhat important. Otherwise, why would we take so many pictures of ourselves. Mirror luv people…it is all about the mirror luv.  :)

Comments provide a positive connection between the blogger and the reader. I love to talk to people and learn more about them.  What better way to do that then to leave a comment. Sometimes 98% of bloggers respond to comments left for them.  The other 2% well, I am not sure why they blog.  It is like tumble weed rolling down a quite western town.

Comments show your support for your blog buddy. Sometimes people need to know that you are listening.  Sometimes people need to know you agree with their ideas.  Sometimes people need a kick in the tuckus to get going on whatever endeavor they are taking on at the moment. So help a sister or brother out.

Comments recipicat what you want when someone reads your blog. I love to hear what people think about my writing.   I don’t expect other bloggers to comment on my blog if I don’t comment out there in the blogosphere.  It is all about karma.

Yes comments can route some traffic your way. I’m not going to lie.  I have gotten added traffic from being a blog commenter.  That is not the only reason I comment, but it is a nice treat for sure.  :)

Blog Commenter
Can you tell I am a happy blog commenter.

Comments add value. I have learned a lot from the comments left for me.  My life is better for being a part of other bloggers lives as well.  It’s nice to know that what I write matters.

Comments are part of the blogging experience. Can you image a blog with no comments.  I think that is one of the criteria that make a blog a blog.  It is a place to sit, read, learn & chat.

Most of all comments tell the blogger that their words are important to others.

Blog Commenter
We accept all the positivity we can get!

Liz was here but now she’s gone, she left her name to carry on.

FD205 – Google PageRank Checker – How to Hit the Radar

Google PageRank Checker
2 out of 10 Ain’t Bad, It’s the little things that make me Happy.

Google PageRank Checker is a tool that I discovered to help me check if LizForADay  is being seen on the search engine radar.  Here is my story and  I will share 11 simple tips that you can use for your site so you can join me.

As a child of the accounting family you can imagine my love for stats.  I’m always looking for ways to make the numbers better.  I have an unhealthy love affair with stats. :)

Using Google Analytics is my attempt at tracking traffic on LizforADay.

I have been blogging since March of 2011.  Because of the hosting at that time my blog went sight unseen, as if hiding behind a locked door of an insane asylum.  The insane person, being me posting regularly with zero interactions for over a year. (Yell with me) Down with GoDaddy!  :-x  I digress.  This summer something in my gut said “Move dear child & you shall be free.”  Move I did to WordPress & I’ve never been happier.

Now the graphs started moving.  I became giddy with excitement.  Especially when I logged into my WordPress account & there was that beautiful orange comment notification flashing at me, noting that someone wanted to talk to me ( by way of comment interactions) of course.  Everyday I would look at my stats to see how many people really luved me & how many people actually wanted to tourture themselves with my words. :)

Then I decided I must find away to track all my love.  Stats that is.  Stay with me people.  The more I blogged the more I wanted to know.  I changed this & tweaked that on my site.  I would sit & just look at my blog page layout, the way one would look at picture frames when hanging a picture.  LizForADay had become a continual work in progress & still is to this day. I will never admit to being obsessive.   Oh no, not me.  :)

Google PageRank Checker
Me conspiring to have a better blog.

I figured  that since my readership had grown, by about 5 people at the time, I must be showing on the radars, that are the search engines.  Plus I heard every blogger should have a media kit & so I created one.  After all, I am darn serious about blogging. Not Obsessive…well at least 48% of the time .   :-?

My Media Kit. Is it Fantabulous?

A couple of months ago I decided to check out my google pagerank, so I could annotate my findings of the lovely stats on my media kit page.  To my shurgrin it was 0 out of 10.  That was the verdict from the search engine, all saying, all knowing, Google PageRank Checker. :(  Really it was a bit disappointing, but no big deal.

Now I was on a mission.  My Google PageRank Checker Plan (You can use if you like) was to SEO my current post & slowly go back (which I’m still doing) to make sure my site is seen.  I do love attention, in case you couldn’t tell.  I wasn’t sure it would work, but I figure it wouldn’t hurt to try.

Google Page Rank Checker
Check at your leisure.

As I was having my lunch and enjoying the view from my beautiful veranda in Bali, I dedided to check where LizForDay stood on the pagerank scale.  It had been a couple of months since I checked, so what the hay.  To my surprise it was 2 out 10! :-o   I couldn’t believe it.  I don’t know exactly what that means, except that the changes I made are making a difference.  Now I had a new number to fixate on.  :)

Note:  I am not a website SEO expert.  This is what worked for me, you can use it if you like.

11 Simple Tips to Get You on the Radar Too with Google PageRank Checker (if anybody gives a hootie hoot)

  1. Update content on a regular basis. That’s not hard if you’re like me and always think you have something good to say.
  2. Know where your traffic is coming from.  I use Google Analytics. (Hint it’s free)
  3. Install great plug-ins.  There are a ton available for free. I instaled WordPress SEO by Yoast.  I love it.
  4. Keywords are important. They need to be in the title, the first paragraph and a few more spots within the content.
  5. Images can multitask.  Don’t forget to use the keyword in your alt tags. It is like playing hide and go seek with you photos.
  6. Two words don’t make a blog post.  It is suggested that the word count be at least 300 words.  I never have a problem with that.  :) Again, I always think I have something good to say.
  7. Don’t forget to have a great meta description for your post which should also include your keyword.
  8. You should have a subheader that also includes the keyword.
  9. It is always nice to have at least one outbound link. You can link to me if you like.  :)
  10. Remember Rome was not built in a day.  It takes time and baby steps.
  11. Never stop improving.

Maybe in a couple of months I will have moved up by at least one more point closer to the big 10.  I will be sure to keep you update.  Will the excitement never end here at LizForADay. I don’t think so. :)
