First Race Sign Up for 2015 – Beef O Brady’s St. Patricks Day Bash

I just registered for St. Patty’s Day Dash & Bash 5k using Race Roster. Join me in this event by registering here – https://raceroster.com/3880?aff=4LEAJ

I am feeling good at this point.  This will be my first race for 2015.  Although I’ll only be racing myself it still feels good to get back on the fitness kick.

How did I come to the decision to participate in this run.  Well, I went out this morning and did my normal 5K.

IMG_3543

This is pretty average for me.  But I have found in the past that I am more motivated and inspired to go out and workout if I have a goal.  So entering events is my motivation.

I searched for an event in my area and this one wasn’t too close, as far as the date and it is right here in the quaint town I live in, which is perfect.

The event will be March 14th and starts at 8am.  They claim it is a flat and fast 5K loop.  I’ll be the judge of that.  :)  Participants will get a race bib that has a chip in it for timing.  I like timed events because I’m always in competition with myself.

The swag is a Tec shirts, green beer and a medal.  I’m always down for beer.  I love beer.

There is also a free run for the kids.  So this is definitely a family event.

If you live in this area and want more info here it is Saint Patty’s Day Dash and Bash

How do you feel about race events?

Why Do I Put Myself in Pain?

It is a beautiful Sunday morning and the weather is absolutely gorgeous.  I live in sunny Florida and it has been super hot.  A better way to put it is that it has been smoldering here.

Why Pain1

Now that it is starting to cool off, I have no excuse not to get back outside and exercise.   I have not done any physical exercise for months and I have not written a blog post for a year.

That is crazy for me to even write because I love blogging.  I have been blogging, but on a different blog.  You see I started my own social media agency and that is all I’ve had time for.  One thing I noticed is when I was blogging here on LizForADay I lived better.

That sounds even crazier but it is so true.  So I decided to jump back on the band wagon.  Blog and get back to my healthier state.  I think the weather has motivated me.

If that makes sense.

Now Why Do I Put Myself in Pain?

Why Pain2

The title of this post was inspired by my urges to eat food that I love, but actually cause me physical pain.  I’m sure I’m not the only one in the world that does this. Currently I noticed that:

Eggs makes my stomach hurt.

Ice Cream makes my stomach hurt.

And chocolate makes my stomach hurt.

You would think that a vegetarian would know better, but nope that is not the case.  So today I’m a vowing to stop torturing myself and make better choices when it comes to eating the foods above.

Screen Shot 2014-10-05 at 10.30.40 AM

I started compiling some vegan & vegetarian recipes that I would like to try on Pinterest.  You can join me there if you like at http://www.pinterest.com/smartofficehelp/vegetarian-recipes/

I love Pinterest. You should try it if you haven’t already.

That’s it for today.

Are there any folds that are painful for you to eat?

Orlando Neon Color Run 2013 Race Review

Orlando Neon Run 2013
That’s a sexy headband!

This is my Orlando Neon Color Run race review and it ain’t pretty.  I’m pretty but the review isn’t.

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted.  I have just been crazy busy.  Hopefully I will be even more crazy busy in the near future.  I haven’t been running much because of my new business, BUT I did run in the Orlando Neon Color Run last weekend.  It looked like fun when I originally signed up.  However I wasn’t feelin it.  So here is the back, front and middle story.

Orlando Neon Run 2013
Packet Pickup

I originally signed up when I saw a discount available on Groupons.  I could not resist.  I hadn’t done any events since I’ve been home from Afghanistan and was dying to get out there with my running people and get my run on.  As the Orlando Neon Color Run got closer,  I become less and less motivated.  I had paid my money and so I was going to run no matter what.

Orlando Neon Run 2013
Really nice race number.

The packet pick up was at Sports Authority which was a totally appropriate place to have it.  I was given my number, with the start time on the back, which was 8pm. They also gave out some chem lights, a headband and some neon paint.  That was nice.

So now I was ready, but still really not feeling excited.  I don’t know when or where it left me.  I enjoy events but not as much as I would like.  I really think it is because I can never find someone to participate with me.  I literally don’t run in those type of circles.  None of my friends run and they don’t want to.  They don’t even want to walk.  That really sucks.

I love running, but not in the events where I don’t have any support.  I just find it is no fun without friends.  I think that is why my Zombie Run in Kabul was my favorite.  I had my work family with me on that one and I loved it.  So any who….

Orlando Neon Run 2013
My me picture.

It was still hot, 82 freakin degrees at night.  Can you believe that.  I wasn’t really feeling good.  I was tired, my stomach hurt.  It kind of sucked.  It was only 2 miles.  I didn’t enjoy it at all.  Lord knows I tried, but I really didn’t.

Would I run it again.  Maybe with a friend.  No run buddy = no run event.

Other than my bad attitude here are some more important facts of this race:

  • Right off the bat they toss and spray color on you.
  • There is seriously thousands of people out there and the majority are walkers.
  • Most of the run was on grass, in the dark :(
  • You can tell this was not a true running event because people were standing in front of the water table chatting.  Also the water table was at the very beginning of the run.  That is crazy.

Heres some more photos:

My time was 30.05 min for 2 miles.  No surprise there.  Well next up is Run For Your Lives.  I will have a running/blogger buddy there.  Hopefully it will be more fun.

Is High Fructose Corn Syrup Bad for You?

Liz3
Sometimes it does not pay to think.

I’ve come to you with a question about High Fructose Corn Syrup.   But first the story behind the question.

About a year ago, I developed a fixation on the use or over use of high fructose corn syrup. Something seemed fishy about high fructose corn syrup.  I didn’t really give it much thought at the time.  I did however notice that it is in EVERYTHING and I do mean everything.

I challenge you to go in your fridge and cabinets to check out the ingredients on your food items.  Take note of how many products have high fructose corn syrup or corn syrup (which by the way is the same thing).

Now think about how much you consume.  How come manufactures of this marvelous stuff (sarcasm) don’t just list it as “a lot of sugar”.

Well,  it does make everything taste great.  I ain’t gonna lie. I do know that anything with -tose at the end of the word  is most likely a sugar substance.  Now I’m on a mission to rid my kitchen of high fructose corn syrup.

I did a little research and there is no scientific data that says it will kill you………

Of course there isn’t dummies.  You know all those oversight commissions are in with big money and government.

The large manufacturers of high fructose corn syrup are making a mint off of us.  At the same time I don’t think our health is of any concern in their business decisions.  I kind of like money too, but I have standards and morals.

The truth is consumers & big business have different types of ethics.  Oh well.  Sorry,  I don’t like talking politics, but you get where I’m going with this.

Where was I?

Liz7
A few items from my kitchen with the bad stuff.

As I looked around my kitchen, I found high fructose corn syrup is in almost everything.  That alone is scary.  I don’t really go to bed dreaming about a blob of corn sugar coming to murder me at night, but it does make you think.

While I was performing my research, I came across this website which was all about giving corn syrup highkus.  That made me suspicious.  So I dug around on the site and I did have to dig a bit.

I should have guessed by all the corn syrup positivity being spread that the website that it was sponsored by some corn refiners association.  WOW!  AND there was a list of …you guessed it….the major manufacturers of this tasty stuff.

Of course, I’m not listing the website for obvious reasons. That is a gangster move for the corn refiners of AMERICAS. The dirty dogs!

Did you know high fructose corn syrup is 6 times sweeter than sugar cane.  I didn’t know that, but I believe it.  Everything super good and addictive usually has tons of sugar dumped on it or pumped inside of it.

I do love food.

Well here is an info-graphic that I dug up.  :) If you have a little bit of common sense, you don’t really need an info-graphic to state the obvious.

The-Dangers-of-High-Fructose-Corn-Syrup-Infographic

I’m not saying it’s bad for you or me, but too much sugar can’t be good for anybody.  Time to weed out the high fructose corn syrup and give my body something healthy.  I know…I’m walking a slippery slope.

I’m going to miss my ketchup.  Darn! :( I have to pick and choose my battles).

Your on a Mission Girl
